I was invited by SPUR ( San Francisco Bay Area Planning and Urban Research Association) to create illustrations for their report— Model Places: Envisioning a future Bay Area with room and opportunity for everyone.
Using land use data, the report classifies different parts of the Bay area to one of 14 “place types” based on urban patterns that occur throughout the region — from open spaces and residential suburbs to industrial areas and dense downtowns.
Based on the report, I visualised three of these place types - Cul-de-sacs, Urban Neighbourhoods and Office Parks as more equitable, sustainable, liveable and humanising places to live and work.

Initially SPUR worked with more traditional architectural visualizations for the reports, but they wanted bolder imagery to connect and engage with their communities. Different illustrators were hired for different scenarios and I worked with the AD, Allison to make sure that the illustrations were relatable, reflective of current day neighborhoods and that they followed urban design principles.
